Girls Who Code

Sammamish, WA

About Our Club

In 1995, 37% of computer scientists were women. Today, it’s only 24%. The percent will continue to decline if we do nothing. We know that the biggest drop off of girls in computer science is between the ages of 13 and 17.

We provide a safe space for the girls interested in STEM in the Sammamish area. During the school year, we meet at Skyline High School before school on Wednesdays. Due to the current situation, we are meeting remotely on Mondays at 5:00pm via Zoom. See "Join" to sign-up and be on our mail list.

Club Planning

Welcome to Girls Who Code Sammamish! We're so glad you're here. My Vice President, Sanmathi Prabakar, helped me to develop this website. If you haven't looked at our Executive Board, I'd like to introduce you to the girls I work with to empower other girls in our community through learning how to code. Currently, we have had multiple planning meetings to set up the club and meetings. Our first official meeting is on August 3rd 8:00pm via Zoom which will be sent out to our mailing list. Our Director of Social Media, Ashley Butz, is hard at work updating you through our Instagram @girlswhocodeshs. Each meeting is comprised of icebreakers to build community, a woman in STEM spotlight, work-time on group projects, and stand-ups to instill confidence in our members. Can't wait to be apart of this innovative and uplifting club? See our "Join" tab to sign up for the first time or if you're an existing member, sign up through Girls Who Code HQ to access our club curriculum and other resources. Also checkout our "Events" tab to see some action shots and to stay up-to-date with our upcoming events calendar. Finally, I would like to thank the Founder of Girls Who Code, Reshma Saujani, and all the other people who have spent their time working to close the gender gap in STEM environments. The Future is Female!

Merch?! Friends?! Outreach?! Oh boy!

Club Planning

As we near the launch date for our club and the first official meeting, we are hard at work planning and working on other projects. Most of the Exec Board is working on outreach- Ashley has been posting on the Instagram and Sydney has been sending emails to our local middle schools-but Somya and Lauren are working to design merch! Soon we will have stickers and t-shirts available for members. We currently have around 20 girls in our club, but the second meeeting is going to be on August 17th and will be a bring-a-friend meeting! Each member which invites a friend to our Zoom meeting will be shipped a sticker! Also, every member who participates will be entered into a raffle to win a free t-shirt! I can't wait to see who our girls bring. Soon I would like to have male members join, as this club is not exclusive, but rather inclusive.
